British company Rolls-Royce has announced major plans to expand its operations in the defense, energy and civil aviation sectors in India. The company's CEO Tufan Erginbilgic said that the aero engine will be jointly developed under the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program for India's next-generation fighter jets. The project will be undertaken with full intellectual property rights transfer, it was revealed. Currently, more than 1,400 Rolls-Royce engines are in service in the three Indian services.
The company aims to double the number of employees in the country to 10,000. It also plans to expand the local supply chain to make India a global hub for advanced manufacturing. The company said that this will also increase opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Rolls-Royce already has joint manufacturing partnerships with HAL and Force Motors, and continues to have sourcing partnerships with over 100 vendors including Tata, Bharat Forge and Godrej.
