Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to Brussels, Belgium, on October 27–28 to meet EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic as negotiations for the long-awaited India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) reach a crucial juncture. The visit aims to give fresh political momentum and strategic direction to finalize a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade deal between the two sides.
According to the Commerce Ministry, the discussions will focus on key FTA components such as market access, non-tariff measures, and regulatory cooperation. Both leaders are also expected to review progress made so far and identify areas needing further alignment.Goyal’s visit follows the 14th round of FTA negotiations held earlier this month, where both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a fair and forward-looking agreement.During his stay, Minister Goyal will hold bilateral talks with Commissioner Sefcovic, followed by a working dinner, where they are expected to strengthen the shared ambition of building a modern, resilient, and sustainable India–EU trade partnership.
This engagement builds on the strategic momentum set by the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier this year, where both leaders emphasized creating a future-ready trade relationship that promotes prosperity, sustainability, and innovation. The Brussels visit is seen as a pivotal step toward translating that shared vision into tangible progress on one of India’s most significant trade negotiations with the European Union.
