The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), the world’s largest derivatives exchange by trading volume, is reportedly seeking a valuation of around ₹5.26 lakh crore ($55 billion) for its proposed initial public offering. According to people familiar with the matter, NSE indicated a potential share price of ₹2,000-2,100 during meetings with qualified investors. The exchange is also conducting international roadshows as part of its IPO marketing campaign, with an additional round in West Asia yet to be completed.
Existing shareholders are considering offering up to 148.9 million shares, equivalent to around a 6% stake in NSE, through an Offer for Sale. The planned stake sale is estimated at a valuation of around $55 billion, or ₹31,500 crore. Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,870 crore IPO in 2024 currently holds the record for the country’s largest IPO. If the NSE issue proceeds as planned, it could become India’s biggest IPO and potentially make NSE the world’s sixth-largest exchange by market value. NSE has appointed around 20 banks for the offering, including Kotak Mahindra Capital, JM Financial, Morgan Stanley, HSBC Holdings and Citigroup.
