The CJP has accused the Centre of delaying the withdrawal of FIRs registered against students and protesters involved in demonstrations in Delhi. The organisation alleged that the Centre was obstructing efforts by the Supreme Court to facilitate the withdrawal of the cases. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das warned on Tuesday that the organisation would launch a nationwide campaign if the Centre failed to take immediate steps to withdraw the FIRs. He also demanded representation for CJP members on the high-level committee proposed by the Supreme Court to examine allegations of police excesses against protesters and claims that protesters had used violence against police personnel during the Delhi demonstrations.
Meanwhile, CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka alleged that BJP threats were behind the cancellation of a meeting planned by the organisation in Kolkata. He claimed that venue owners refused to provide space for the event after allegedly being intimidated. The BJP, however, rejected the allegations. The developments have brought renewed attention to the FIR issue, the proposed inquiry into the Delhi protests and the cancellation of the Kolkata meeting.
