YouTube is set to make a major change to the way video views are counted. Starting August 24, the platform will introduce a unified view-counting system across all video formats, including long-form videos and YouTube Shorts. Under the new system, a view will be counted as soon as a video starts playing and its first frame appears. There will no longer be a minimum watch-time requirement for a view to be recorded.
YouTube said the change could result in views increasing more quickly. The company explained that the move is aimed at providing a consistent measure of creator exposure across different video formats and making it easier for brands to assess creators’ value for potential deals. The new system is expected to give creators a clearer picture of their content reach and performance.
