

India moved firmly towards victory in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Chasing a target of 372, Sri Lanka ended Day 4 at 84 for 4 after 34 overs, leaving them 288 runs short with six wickets in hand. Dhananjaya de Silva was unbeaten on 31, while Sonal Dinusha was on 25. Manav Suthar took two wickets, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna claiming one each.
India had earlier posted 462 in the first innings, powered by Devdutt Padikkal’s outstanding 167 and KL Rahul’s 82. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284, giving India a 178-run first-innings lead. India then made 193 in the second innings, with Rishabh Pant scoring a crucial 66 to set Sri Lanka a daunting target. India are now in a commanding position, although weather and possible rain in Galle could play a decisive role on the final day.
