

India registered a commanding 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test, successfully defending a target of 372 runs. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 206 on the fifth day, handing India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Young spinner Manav Suthar was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 6/55 in the second innings and finishing the match with 10 wickets. Prasidh Krishna took two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one each.
Sri Lanka’s chase was kept alive for a while by half-centuries from Sonal Dinusha and captain Dhananjaya de Silva. Dinusha top-scored with 84, while Dhananjaya made 59. Suthar then produced a sensational 76th over, dismissing Dinusha, Prabath Jayasuriya and Lahiru Kumara to complete a remarkable three-wicket over. India had earlier posted 462 in the first innings, with Sri Lanka replying with 284. India scored 193 in the second innings. Devdutt Padikkal, who scored a big century in the first innings, was named Player of the Match. India remain fifth in the WTC standings but improved their points percentage to 53.33%, with 60 points.
