Dr. Samir Kagalkar, a BJP leader and former Karnataka BJP Economic Cell convenor, reportedly faced charges of more than ₹1,200 from HDFC Bank after making a payment of ₹10,649 against a credit-card bill of ₹10,649.46. Kagalkar highlighted the issue on X, questioning the charges reportedly imposed over the remaining 46 paise. The matter quickly attracted attention online.
Following the online reaction, HDFC Bank reversed the charges as a one-time goodwill gesture. The bank clarified that the payment had been received after the applicable grace period. The incident has since sparked discussion on credit-card payment deadlines, minimum outstanding amounts and additional charges imposed by banks.
