Around 2.5-2.7 lakh temporary jobs are expected to be created across India during this year’s festive season, according to staffing and talent solutions firm Adecco India. The hiring demand is likely to come from e-commerce, logistics, quick commerce, organised retail, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI). The report estimates that temporary and gig hiring could rise by 15-20% year on year, compared with around 2.16 lakh jobs created in the organised sector during the previous festive season.
Nearly 45% of the workforce demand this year is expected to come from Tier-II and Tier-III cities such as Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Coimbatore. The expansion of e-commerce, growth of organised retail and rising consumer spending are driving demand in these markets. Meanwhile, Tier-I cities such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are facing significant talent shortages. Employee migration and the growing preference for gig work are making both hiring and workforce retention more challenging.
Temporary wages are expected to rise by 12-15% in metro markets and 8-10% in Tier-II and Tier-III locations. Retail sales associates, customer support representatives, field sales executives, merchandisers and BFSI professionals are expected to be in strong demand. Candidates with proficiency in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi, along with digital skills, are likely to have better employment opportunities during the festive season.
