Fintech company PhonePe has introduced the RuPay On-The-Go card for Hyderabad Metro passengers under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) initiative. This all-in-one transit card allows commuters to make seamless transport payments even without internet connectivity. As part of the initial phase, passengers can purchase the card at Hyderabad Metro ticket counters. After verifying the OTP sent to the passenger’s mobile number, the card can be issued by the metro agent. Users can then load money into the card through UPI, cash, or other payment cards.
The card works on a prepaid stored-value system, meaning the balance is stored directly on the chip embedded in the card. This enables commuters to make completely offline tap-and-pay transactions even in areas without internet access. Users can load up to ₹2,000 on the card, while offline transactions are limited to a maximum of ₹500 per transaction. Although issued in Hyderabad, the card can be used across India at metros, buses, trains, toll plazas, and parking facilities where NCMC is accepted, including cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru. PhonePe Payments Head Deep Agrawal said the company aims to expand the service by integrating with more transport systems across the country.
