X (formerly Twitter) has admitted to a major lapse in content moderation after obscene imagery linked to its AI chatbot Grok appeared on the platform. Sources in the Modi government said X accepted responsibility for allowing such objectionable content to circulate.
Following government intervention, X has blocked nearly 3,500 pieces of content and permanently removed more than 600 accounts involved in creating or spreading obscene material. The platform acted after concerns were raised over explicit content generated or promoted through Grok AI.
Government officials stated that X has assured authorities that strict corrective measures have now been implemented. The company has committed to stronger safeguards to prevent similar violations in the future.
Going forward, X will not allow the generation, display, or circulation of obscene imagery through Grok AI or any related features. This move is being seen as a significant step toward enforcing accountability of global digital platforms operating in India, especially regarding user safety and legal compliance.
