The legal battle between Apple and OpenAI over the ChatGPT maker’s secretive consumer-device ambitions has intensified. Apple filed a lawsuit alleging that OpenAI, along with former Apple employees who joined the AI company, misappropriated confidential information and trade secrets to accelerate its hardware efforts. Apple has sought court intervention to prevent the alleged use or disclosure of its proprietary information.
OpenAI has strongly rejected Apple’s claims, describing the allegations as baseless and asking the US court to dismiss the lawsuit. The AI company argues that Apple has not clearly established what specific trade secrets were allegedly misappropriated or demonstrated that OpenAI improperly used them. The dispute comes as OpenAI expands its ambitions beyond software and into consumer hardware, potentially creating new competition in a space long dominated by Apple.
