Indian star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has expressed serious concerns ahead of the National Open Ranking Tournament scheduled to be held in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. She warned that if any untoward incident happens to her or her team members during the competition, the Government of India should be held accountable. Phogat also raised apprehensions about possible biased officiating in what marks her comeback event.
She further alleged that former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues to hold influence in the Gonda region and may indirectly impact the tournament outcomes through his associates. Stressing past grievances, she urged for transparency and requested the presence of media and sports authorities at the venue. The tournament will be crucial for wrestler selection for the 2026 Asian Games, with Phogat set to compete in the 57 kg category.
