Varun Chakravarthy Ruled Out of Asian Games After Fresh Injury

India spinner Varun Chakravarthy has suffered another injury setback and has been ruled out of the remaining T20Is against Afghanistan as well as the 2026 Asian Games. Chakravarthy had only recently returned to competitive cricket after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out during India’s England tour. He made his comeback in the first T20I against Afghanistan in New Delhi and delivered a four-over spell, but subsequently complained of discomfort and scans revealed a side strain.

The latest injury has forced Chakravarthy out of India’s Asian Games squad. The BCCI has named young leg-spinner and all-rounder Vipraj Nigam as his replacement. Nigam is set to get an opportunity to represent India at the continental event for the first time. The 2026 Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with the cricket competition scheduled as part of the Games later in September.
