Pakistan U-19 Team Faces Awkward Incident

Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team faced an unexpected situation during its tour of England. As the players arrived at a hotel in Portsmouth for a match, anti-immigration protesters reportedly mistook them for illegal immigrants. Around 40 protesters gathered outside the hotel and began demonstrating, briefly creating a tense atmosphere. Officials quickly explained that the group was a visiting cricket team, after which the situation calmed down. Local councillor George Madgwick spoke with the Pakistan U-19 coach and later met the protesters to clarify the misunderstanding. The protesters were informed that the visitors were cricketers and left a few minutes later.

The councillor said the confusion may have been triggered by a photograph shared online showing foreigners arriving at the hotel, which later went viral. He urged people not to spread fake news without verifying the facts. Portsmouth North MP Amanda Martin also called for action to prevent the spread of misinformation and urged authorities to take strict measures against those circulating false reports. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s U-19 team is in England for a series against the hosts. Pakistan lost the Youth Test by 10 runs between the 2nd and 5th of this month, but bounced back in the first Youth ODI on the 9th, defeating England by a massive 177-run margin.
