Indian Women delivered a commanding performance against Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I at Thiruvananthapuram. Asked to bat first after losing the toss, the Indian batters put on a run-fest, scoring an imposing 221 for 2 in 20 overs and setting Sri Lanka a challenging target of 222.
Openers Smriti Mandhana (80 off 48 balls; 11 fours, three sixes) and Shafali Verma (79 off 46 balls; 12 fours, one six) led the charge with fluent half-centuries, narrowly missing out on centuries. The pair stitched together a record 162-run opening partnership. Richa Ghosh (40*) and Harmanpreet Kaur (16*) added an unbeaten 52-run stand to maintain the momentum. For Sri Lanka, Malsha Shehani and Nimisha Madushani claimed one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Sri Lanka managed 191 for 6, despite captain Chamari Athapaththu scoring 52 off 37 balls and Hasini Perera contributing 33. After a steady start in the powerplay, Sri Lanka lost momentum as Indian bowlers, particularly Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh, tightened the screws in the middle overs. With this victory, India took an unassailable 4–0 lead in the five-match series. Deepti Sharma also equalled Australia’s Megan Schutt for the most wickets in women’s T20Is, reaching the landmark of 151 wickets.
