India produced a remarkable performance at the Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka, securing four medals including three gold. Five Indian women advanced to the semifinals across both the recurve and compound categories, marking one of India’s strongest showings in the tournament’s history. With three Indian archers entering the last four in Women’s Recurve, India is already assured of at least one medal in the event. Ankita Bhakat delivered the standout performance of the day, stunning top-seeded Korean archer Jang Minhee with a brilliant comeback win. She joins veterans Deepika Kumari and Sangeeta, who also dominated their quarterfinals to give India control over the bracket.
India continued its dominance in the Women’s Compound division as well, with two archers making it into the semifinals. Reigning world champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam maintained her top form by defeating South Korea’s Oh Yoohyun 147–145 to enter the last four, where she will face Si-Yu Chen of Chinese Taipei. India’s overall performance reflects the rapid growth of the national archery program and signals a major shift in the Asian archery landscape, especially against traditionally strong Korean competitors.
