Major Billing Irregularities Reported in GHMC

A major financial irregularity has reportedly come to light in the GHMC, where duplicate bills amounting to nearly Rs.70 crore were allegedly paid to 102 contractors. Vigilance officials reportedly found that the payments involved not only duplicate bills but also excess amounts.

Following the revelation, GHMC officials began efforts to recover the money from the contractors. Around Rs.7 crore has reportedly been recovered from 12 contractors so far. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has ordered a vigilance inquiry into the matter. The Commissioner has also removed Sharath Chandra, an Audit Department official working on deputation as Financial Advisor in the GHMC, from his duties, citing his alleged responsibility in the matter.
