Australia defeated India by seven wickets to clinch a convincing victory in the rain-affected first ODI in Perth. Australia chased down a revised target of 131 (via DLS method) with 4.5 overs to spare, after India managed only 136/9 in a match reduced to 26 overs due to four rain stoppages. As a result, Australia take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (0) bitterly disappointed on their India comebacks, while new captain Shubman Gill (10) and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer (11) also flopped. KL Rahul, Axar Patel and Nitish Reddy's late charge took India to 136, but it proved to be too little in the end. For Australia, skipper Mitchell Marsh top-scored with an unbeaten 46, while Josh Hazlewood impressed with two early wickets in a superb opening spell.
