

India has been assured of its first medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, with Suchika Tariyal advancing to the semifinals of the women’s 60kg Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event. Suchika defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 in the quarterfinals, securing at least a bronze medal for India. She will now compete for a place in the final against either Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo or Iran’s Arezou Salimighalehtaki.
India also opened its medal account in shooting at the Asian Games. The Indian women’s 10m air rifle team of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod finished second to win the silver medal. The trio produced a strong performance to secure the runner-up position, while China claimed the gold medal in the event.
