Indian badminton star PV Sindhu believes patience is essential in a sport where momentum can change at any moment. The 31-year-old has qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals, scheduled from December 9 to 13, after finishing fifth in the qualifying rankings. Expressing happiness over her place among the world's top six, Sindhu said staying fit and taking care of her body are more important than constantly focusing on rankings. Pointing out that several athletes continue to perform at the highest level in their 30s, she said she sees no reason why she cannot return to the top. Reflecting on her journey, Sindhu added that she has become better at understanding the mental challenges of the game and learning from mistakes. "Thirty-one is the new 21," she said, explaining that victories feel sweeter now because of the experience she has gained.
Sindhu also called on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to review its 25-second shot clock rule. She said players need adequate recovery time after exhausting rallies and argued that issuing yellow or red cards for delays in serving can be unfair. Citing an incident during the French Open semifinals, where a French pair reportedly received a red-card penalty at 19-19 before the Chinese pair won, she stressed the need to reassess the regulation. Sindhu further revealed that Indian cricket star Virat Kohli inspired her during a difficult phase. She said a conversation with him helped her understand how to recharge mentally, handle challenging periods and enjoy the game.
