Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand for an open debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, challenging him to raise the issues in Parliament instead of taking political arguments to the streets. Speaking at an event in Haryana, Shah said that if Rahul wanted a meaningful discussion backed by facts and logic, he should come to Parliament and debate the government face-to-face. He also took a swipe at the Congress leader, claiming that Rahul would not be able to handle the government’s responses. Shah accused the Congress of repeatedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings, boycotting important discussions and mobilising people for street protests instead of participating in debates inside the House.
Shah made the remarks while participating in a march titled ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ in the Karnal region of Haryana, alongside other senior leaders. He also said the government was prepared to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss SIR. Referring to the Congress’s electoral performance in 2014, 2019 and 2024, Shah questioned Rahul’s political arguments and warned that the BJP would respond if the Congress continued mobilising people for street protests. Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has been demanding an open debate with Modi over the Prime Minister’s remarks alleging that opposition parties were seeking the support of foreign forces to destabilise the country. Rahul has countered that Modi himself depends on foreign forces to remain in power and has alleged that his microphone is switched off when he attempts to speak in the Lok Sabha.
