Franchises are preparing their strategies for the mini auction ahead of the next IPL season, with player retention, releases and trades expected to shape team combinations. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings have already completed an official player exchange. Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has now shared his views on the possible requirements and player choices of several franchises. He believes Mumbai Indians need a batter capable of playing at No. 4 and handling both pace and spin, naming Punjab Kings’ Nehal Wadhera as a potential option. Rayudu also suggested that Royal Challengers Bengaluru could look at leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while Gujarat Titans may consider Venkatesh Iyer to strengthen their middle order.
Rayudu further suggested that Yashasvi Jaiswal could be a suitable captaincy option for Lucknow Super Giants. He also predicted that Kolkata Knight Riders might consider bringing in Suryakumar Yadav and handing him the leadership role. With uncertainty surrounding Pat Cummins’ availability, Rayudu said an all-rounder like Sam Curran could be a valuable addition to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis expects three franchises to have new captains. He identified Rohit Sharma or Jasprit Bumrah as possible leaders for Mumbai Indians, while Aiden Markram or Mitchell Marsh could take charge at Lucknow. For Kolkata, he mentioned Rinku Singh or Hardik Pandya, should the franchise acquire the latter through a trade. These are predictions from the former cricketers, and the franchises are yet to confirm their plans.
