Ajit Agarkar’s Future as BCCI Chief Selector Unclear

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s future remains uncertain as his current tenure is scheduled to end on October 4. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to discuss the matter at its annual general meeting on Friday. According to reports from cricketing circles, the board may consider appointing a new chief selector instead of extending Agarkar’s tenure. With the 2027 ODI World Cup still about a year away, the timing could allow the board to begin preparations under a new selection committee. It is also being reported that a decision regarding Agarkar’s future may have already been taken when the squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies was announced.

If Agarkar does not receive an extension, attention will turn to potential candidates for the chief selector’s post. Former India cricketers Parthiv Patel and Pragyan Ojha are among the names reportedly being discussed. Ojha is already part of the BCCI selection committee and also serves on the IPL Governing Council. The 40-year-old began his domestic cricket career with Hyderabad despite being from Odisha. Parthiv Patel, who hails from Gujarat, has also worked as a coach with several IPL franchises.
