Story:
Set in a Telangana village, Band Melam revolves around Giri, who has been in love with his cousin Raji since childhood. While their families initially support their relationship, life takes a different turn as they grow up. Giri struggles in studies and lives a carefree life with his friends, while Raji moves ahead in life pursuing higher education. The story follows whether Giri transforms himself, proves his worth through music, and wins Raji’s love or not.
Plus Points:
The rural backdrop looks natural and relatable. A few scenes between the lead pair feel genuine, and some visuals are neatly presented. The concept of a local band and its journey had scope to be engaging. There are a few light-hearted moments that work to an extent.
Minus Points:
The biggest drawback is the outdated and predictable storyline. The narrative lacks freshness and fails to engage the audience emotionally. The love track is not strongly developed. Harsh Roshan’s performance feels exaggerated at many places, which affects the overall impact. The music, which should have been a strong point, turns out to be dull and forgettable. The direction lacks proper grip, making the film feel stretched and tiring.
Technical Department:
Technically, the film is average. Cinematography is decent in parts, but music fails to leave a mark. Editing could have been sharper to reduce the lag. Overall, the technical aspects do not add much strength to the film.
Verdict:
Band Melam is a disappointing film with a weak script and outdated storytelling. It fails to create impact and ends up being a tedious watch.
Rating: 2/5
