Andhra Pradesh leaders have once again highlighted the ongoing debate over the state capital Amaravati. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said that even after so many years since the state was formed, people are still fighting over the capital. He pointed out that during the state’s division, the Congress government did not act responsibly. He also added that people always had a feeling of “Telugu unity” rather than seeing Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as separate identities. He noted that at the time of formation, there were no proper offices, but then-Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu worked with strong determination despite the challenges.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the previous government made efforts to undermine Amaravati. He claimed that while former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy initially supported Amaravati as the capital, he later changed his stance after coming to power. Chandrababu also mentioned that farmers gave around 34,000 acres of land within 58 days for the capital, but the then government wrote letters to the World Bank asking not to provide funds for Amaravati.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly has been adjourned indefinitely. A resolution was passed in the Assembly supporting the legal recognition of Amaravati as the permanent capital. The resolution was approved unanimously and will be sent to the Central Government for further action.
