The Tamil Nadu government faced strong criticism after an order was issued directing government arts and science college principals to prevent students and youth from participating in protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and Left parties. The order, issued by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education on August 17, instructed the School Education and Higher Education departments to coordinate with the police and district administration to ensure compliance.
Following criticism from political and student groups, the Vijay government withdrew the order on Wednesday. The directive reportedly came amid nationwide CJP protests against the alleged NEET paper leak, which also received support from Left parties. The government’s decision to withdraw the instructions has triggered political discussion, with critics describing the move as a U-turn.
