The United States has launched retaliatory strikes against Iran following the crash of an Apache AH-64 helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump earlier claimed that Iran was responsible for downing the aircraft and warned of strong countermeasures. Soon after his statement, the US military initiated operations, with US Central Command confirming on social media that the strikes were in response to what it called an “unprovoked attack” by Iran.
According to reports, the incident occurred during a patrol near Oman’s coast when the helicopter crashed in the early hours of Tuesday. Both pilots were rescued with the help of a drone boat. US investigations later indicated that an Iranian drone strike may have caused the crash. Explosions were reportedly heard near Qeshm Island, as per Iranian media sources.
