Union Minister and BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy welcomed the Telangana High Court’s verdict disqualifying Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender in the defection case. Kishan Reddy said that a legislator elected on one party’s symbol should respect the mandate of voters and, according to his statement, should resign before joining another party. He said Nagender had switched from the BRS to the Congress without resigning as an MLA and called on the Congress to introspect and respond to the issue.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar also reacted to the verdict, describing the disqualification as a “victory for democracy” in his remarks. He urged the Speaker to act independently of political parties and take action against legislators involved in defections. The Telangana High Court had set aside the Speaker’s earlier order rejecting disqualification petitions against Nagender and directed that his Assembly seat stand vacated, paving the way for a fresh election to the constituency.
