The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance has registered a significant victory in several municipalities across Andhra Pradesh, including Macherla, Pulivendula and Punganur, which were considered strongholds of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). The results indicate a major political setback for YSRCP, particularly in areas where the party had secured unanimous victories in the 2021 municipal elections. The ruling alliance made significant gains, winning several chairperson posts and ward seats. The outcome also marks a major shift in the political landscape of Kadapa district, traditionally regarded as a stronghold of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In Pulivendula, the home constituency of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the TDP-led alliance secured 37 of the 40 wards, while TDP candidate Geetha Kumari won the chairperson post. In Punganur, associated with former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, the alliance secured 32 of the 36 wards unanimously, with its chairperson candidate also elected unopposed. Macherla witnessed another major setback for YSRCP, with TDP winning 32 wards, Jana Sena securing three and the BJP winning one. The alliance also recorded unanimous victories in Piduguralla, Gurazala and Dachepalli. The results stand in contrast to the 2021 municipal elections, when YSRCP secured several unanimous victories amid allegations of intimidation, attacks on opposition leaders and obstruction of nominations. This time, voters backed the TDP-led alliance, delivering a strong political message.
