The Supreme Court on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, adjourned the hearing on a plea filed by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, challenging his detention under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). The hearing has now been rescheduled to Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria posted the matter due to limited time in court. Wangchuk’s wife had sought his immediate release and challenged the grounds of his detention.
Earlier, on October 6, the top court issued notices to the Centre and the Union Territory of Ladakh but refused to pass any interim order on the plea, instead scheduling the matter for October 14.
Wangchuk was detained under the NSA on September 26, following violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status. The unrest had left four people dead and 90 injured, and the government accused Wangchuk of inciting the violence.
Stay tuned for updates as the Supreme Court takes up the case on October 15.
