Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has strongly criticized the United States for its response following the deaths of three Indian crew members in an attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf region. Tharoor expressed disappointment that the U.S., regarded as a strategic partner of India, did not publicly express regret or condolences over the loss of Indian lives. He described the response as lacking sensitivity and questioned the manner in which maritime enforcement measures were being carried out in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Congress leader also questioned whether non-lethal alternatives could have been used to stop vessels suspected of violating blockade regulations. He argued that commercial ships operating in Gulf waters often have Indian crew members on board and stressed that innocent sailors should not become casualties of geopolitical conflicts. The incident has drawn diplomatic attention, with India raising concerns over the deaths of Indian nationals and emphasizing the need to ensure the safety of civilian maritime personnel operating in international waters.
