Ratna Debnath, mother of the victim in the RG Kar rape-murder case and BJP’s Panihati candidate, has triggered a major political controversy in West Bengal with her sharp remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She reportedly said that if she met Mamata Banerjee, she would “grab her by the hair and put her in jail.” The All India Trinamool Congress has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, calling the statement provocative and inappropriate, further intensifying the election atmosphere in the state.
Debnath entered politics after the 2024 RG Kar case, placing justice for her daughter and women’s safety at the core of her campaign. The controversy has added fresh heat to an already charged political environment in West Bengal, with parties engaging in sharp exchanges ahead of the elections. The incident has sparked widespread debate across political circles and among the public.
