Nepal’s young Prime Minister and former rapper Balen Shah is facing a major political storm after his controversial remarks in Parliament regarding the long-standing India-Nepal border dispute. Opposition parties, student groups, and media outlets have strongly criticized his statements, accusing him of weakening Nepal’s sovereign position.
Shah reportedly stated that the border issue is not one-sided and suggested revisiting British-era maps of the Kali River region, even proposing possible international mediation. His comments triggered widespread protests in Kathmandu and demands for resignation. India reiterated that border issues are strictly bilateral and rejected third-party involvement. Meanwhile, Nepal’s foreign ministry issued clarifications, though contradictions within official statements have further intensified the controversy.
