Senior BRS leader Harish Rao alleged that around 10,017 houses are likely to be demolished in the name of the Musi River development project in Hyderabad. He stated that if the project proceeds in its current form, thousands of poor families could lose their homes and be pushed onto the streets. Raising concerns over the move, Harish Rao questioned the government’s intentions and demanded clarity on the rehabilitation measures for affected residents.
Criticising the government’s approach, he said that while homes are being destroyed by missiles in Iran, authorities here are preparing to demolish houses with bulldozers. He also questioned whether a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Musi project has been fully prepared. According to him, the government had earlier informed the Assembly that preparing the DPR for the stretch from Bapu Ghat to Himayat Sagar would take about 18 months. Harish Rao asked how demolition notices could be issued to poor residents before the completion of the DPR.
