KTR Seeks Supreme Court Intervention Over ECI Concerns.. Here’s Why

BRS working president K T Rama Rao has urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of concerns surrounding the functioning of the Election Commission of India. Speaking to the media, he said the objections reportedly raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process had raised questions and doubts about the functioning of the poll panel. The Election Commission, however, has said that concerns were part of its internal deliberations and that decisions related to the SIR were taken unanimously.

Rama Rao said the Election Commission is a constitutional body and should function in a manner that remains above suspicion. He argued that the Supreme Court is the appropriate institution to examine the concerns and called for a suo motu inquiry. He also referred to concerns expressed by former election commissioners and said the matter should be taken seriously. According to Rama Rao, a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry could help bring clarity to the issues and address questions surrounding public confidence in the electoral process.
