TRS chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha is scheduled to meet the victims of the Nerella sand incident today. The issue dates back to July 2, 2017, when Nerella farmer Badanapu Bhumayya died after being hit by a sand truck at Jillella in Tangallapalli mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district. Following the incident, villagers protested by setting fire to several sand trucks, after which police arrested eight people. The victims had alleged police excesses and third-degree treatment during the investigation.
Some of those who were in remand reportedly suffered serious health issues and received treatment at Karimnagar Government Hospital. Recently, one of the victims, Gandham Gopal, passed away, while another victim, Penta Banyaiah, has been suffering from kidney-related problems. The Nerella issue has once again gained attention, with political parties recalling past allegations and demanding justice for the victims.
