Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the Government of India is strongly committed to strengthening the country’s disaster management system. Speaking after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects worth over Rs.116 crore, he said these initiatives would significantly enhance the capabilities of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in protecting citizens from various disasters. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has moved beyond disaster risk reduction and is now aiming towards the goal of “zero casualty,” he added.
Amit Shah praised the NDRF for not only rescuing people during disasters but also protecting animals, setting an inspiring example. He said the Ministry of Home Affairs is fully prepared to tackle challenges such as heatwaves and aims to reduce heatwave-related deaths to zero. Stressing community participation, Shah revealed that thousands of personnel, civil defence workers, and over 2.2 lakh volunteers have been trained for disaster response. He also highlighted that the Modi Government has transformed disaster management from a reactive system into a preventive and productive ecosystem across the country.
