The United States has eased sanctions related to oil transportation to Cuba, allowing the supply of Russian crude without objection. US President Donald Trump stated that he has no issue with any country, including Russia, supplying oil to Cuba at this time. His remarks came amid uncertainty over whether a Russian oil tanker carrying 730,000 barrels of crude would be permitted to reach Cuba due to existing sanctions. The vessel, named Anatoly Kolodkin, departed from Russia earlier this month and crossed the English Channel into the Atlantic Ocean.
Following Trump’s statement, the US officially cleared the Russian tanker to proceed, with reports suggesting it is likely to arrive in Cuba soon. Trump also made a controversial remark predicting the collapse of the Cuban government in the near future. Earlier, oil supplies to Cuba had been disrupted following actions involving Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, and the US had warned of imposing heavy tariffs on countries assisting Cuba with oil shipments. The latest move marks a significant shift in US policy regarding energy supplies to the island nation.
