The controversy surrounding the Gokul Dairy board in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district has triggered a political exchange between the ruling government and the Opposition. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to criticism from Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Questioning Gandhi's intervention, Fadnavis asked why he was tweeting from Delhi about a local cooperative issue involving around 4,500 voters. He explained that the two panels had secured 13 and 12 seats respectively in the Gokul Dairy elections, while the chairman's election meetings were postponed twice due to a lack of the required quorum.
Defending the government's decision, Fadnavis said the ordinance was issued after obtaining the opinion of the Advocate General. Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, accused the Maharashtra government of changing the rules after the election to appoint government-nominated directors and alter the board's majority. He alleged that the move undermined the democratic mandate of milk producers. The issue has sparked a political confrontation between the ruling alliance and Opposition parties in Maharashtra.
