In the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Indian National Congress (Congress) are likely to contest together once again as alliance partners. As part of the seat-sharing talks, DMK has reportedly offered 28 Assembly seats and one Rajya Sabha seat to Congress. Party sources say that Congress has shown a positive response to this proposal.
It is also reported that DMK president M. K. Stalin spoke with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over the phone regarding the seat-sharing discussions. These talks are said to have helped move the alliance discussions forward.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 234 Assembly constituencies. Initially, Congress insisted on getting at least 30 seats in the alliance. To resolve the issue, the Congress leadership assigned senior leader P. Chidambaram to hold discussions with DMK and finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.
