The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will hold a joint meeting of its Legislature Party and State Executive on December 19 at Telangana Bhavan under the leadership of party chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The meeting will focus on issues related to Krishna and Godavari river waters, the alleged neglect by the present Congress government in taking forward irrigation projects initiated during the BRS regime, and the failure to prevent Andhra Pradesh’s diversion of river waters. The party feels that protecting Telangana farmers’ irrigation rights may require launching another public movement.
BRS strongly criticised the reduction of water allocation to the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project from 91 TMCs to 45 TMCs, calling it a grave injustice to farmers. The party accused both the Congress government and the BJP-led Centre of harming Telangana’s interests and stated that firm decisions would be taken on future agitation plans and organisational matters. BRS reiterated that it would not compromise on safeguarding Telangana’s irrigation projects and farmers’ rights.
