The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a ₹100-crore defamation notice to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his recent allegations that BJP leaders attempted to lure National Conference (NC) MLAs with cash and ministerial positions to destabilise the state government. The party has asked Abdullah to issue a public apology within seven days.
J&K BJP president Sat Sharma stated that the allegations were false, baseless, and had damaged the party's reputation. The notice follows Omar Abdullah's remarks at a party event in Srinagar, where he alleged that BJP representatives had offered ₹30 crore, ministerial berths, and assurances regarding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood to NC legislators. The BJP has rejected the allegations and warned that legal proceedings will follow if the Chief Minister does not withdraw his statements and apologise.
