Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to intensify awareness campaigns on scrub typhus as the number of cases continues to rise in the state. He reviewed the situation with Health Department Principal Secretary Saurabh Gaur.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the recent death of Chandaka Rajeshwari from Vizianagaram due to scrub typhus and instructed officials to ensure that such incidents do not recur. Saurabh Gaur explained to the CM the sequence of events that led to her death.
Rajeshwari was reportedly bitten by a chigger mite. She was initially treated for typhoid, and later, a rapid test confirmed scrub typhus. She passed away while receiving treatment at the Vizianagaram Quasi Hospital.
Officials informed the CM that the disease is caused by a bacterium called Orientia tsutsugamushi and clarified that it is not a contagious infection. The CM stressed the need for early diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent complications.
