Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Lok Sabha Parliamentary Party Leader Abhishek Banerjee has urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla not to recognise any rebel faction claiming to represent the party. In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Abhishek asserted that there is only one All India Trinamool Congress, one authorised parliamentary leader, and one official party whip. He maintained that no group of MPs has the authority to form a parallel faction and seek separate recognition in Parliament.
The development comes amid reports of growing dissent within the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee. Abhishek reportedly cited the Supreme Court's Shiv Sena split verdict, arguing that legislative splits no longer enjoy protection under anti-defection provisions. As speculation over a possible political realignment intensifies, both the party leadership and dissident MPs are preparing for a crucial decision from the Lok Sabha Speaker in the coming days.
