The film “The Taj Story”, starring Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, is set to release on OTT after about four months of its theatrical run. The movie was produced by Suresh Jhu and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel. Actors Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh and Namit Das also played important roles in the film. It was released in theatres on October 31, 2025 and quickly became a topic of discussion because of its controversial theme.
Now the film is coming to OTT through Lionsgate Play and will start streaming from March 13 in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The story explores the question of whether the Taj Mahal was truly built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan or if there is another hidden history behind it. The film also sparked controversy when its poster showed a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from the Taj Mahal.

The movie follows a tour guide named Vishnu Das who tries to uncover the hidden history of the monument. It is inspired by a controversial theory proposed by historian P. N. Oak, who claimed that the Taj Mahal was originally a Hindu temple called “Tejo Mahalaya” and later converted into a tomb by Shah Jahan. However, this claim has been rejected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Because the film touches on this theory, it led to debates among historians and even legal discussions in court.
