The YSR Congress Party (YCP) has strongly opposed the proposed regularisation of 54.79 acres of land under the control of Gitam University. On Thursday, a team of YCP leaders from Visakhapatnam visited the university premises to inspect the land. However, they were stopped by Gitam University security personnel at the main gate, following which the leaders staged a protest at the entrance, leading to tense situations in the area.
As the situation escalated, local police intervened and attempted to disperse the protesting leaders. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Council had earlier proposed a resolution to regularise the 54.79 acres of land belonging to Gitam University. This move has been strongly opposed by YCP corporators and local party leaders in Visakhapatnam. When the YCP delegation tried to enter the university campus, police prevented them and later moved in to detain the protesting leaders to maintain law and order.
