

X has announced a new decision to curb the spread of fake war videos and images generated using artificial intelligence. The platform has issued a warning to creators who post AI-generated war footage, stating that they will be removed from X’s revenue-sharing program. As part of its monetization model, X shares revenue with video creators however, the company has now imposed stricter restrictions on earnings linked to AI policy violations. According to Bear, if a creator violates the AI policy a second time, their revenue account will be permanently suspended.
To identify misleading AI-generated content, X relies on its Community Notes system and has introduced features designed to detect false AI material. The platform also evaluates additional signals within posted videos to determine authenticity. With the rapid advancement of AI technology, users have increasingly been sharing AI-generated videos and images at a large scale. The ongoing Iran war has further fueled the surge in fake content on the platform.
Recently, a fabricated AI-generated video falsely depicting missile attacks on Tel Aviv was widely circulated and received millions of likes. In another instance, a fake AI-created image claiming that around 150 children were killed in a U.S. strike on a school was shared extensively on X, with several high-profile officials also reposting it. However, X later clarified that the image was fake and confirmed it as AI-generated content.
