

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the implementation of 33% reservation for women in legislatures as one of the biggest decisions of the 21st century. He announced that special Parliament sessions will be held from the 16th to 18th of this month to advance the implementation of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ Act. While the bill was passed in 2023, steps are being taken to ensure its implementation from the 2029 general elections. He emphasized that increasing women’s representation will strengthen social justice.
Expressing confidence in unanimous support for the bill, the Prime Minister stated that it would fulfill a long-pending demand spanning decades. He highlighted the growing role of women from local governance to national leadership, noting that their participation has brought positive changes in decision-making and development. Modi stressed that women’s empowerment is crucial for building a developed India and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting women at every stage of life.
