The Telangana state government is likely to increase liquor prices next month and has initiated steps in this direction. A three member committee, including a retired judge, a former senior official, and an auditor, has been formed to determine the revised pricing. The committee will review proposals from liquor manufacturers and is expected to submit its report by the end of this month. The move comes as part of the regular price review conducted every two years.
Rising production costs, especially due to increased bottle manufacturing expenses, have prompted liquor companies to seek a price hike. While companies have requested a 12–15 percent increase, the government may opt for a moderate hike of 3–5 percent to avoid public backlash. Prices of regular bottles may go up by ₹60–80, while premium brands could see an increase of ₹100–120. This revision could generate an additional monthly revenue of around ₹300 crore for the government.
